New
Oriental Cup Cartoon
Competition (2008-5-23)
On
May 20th 2008, our school
held the award ceremony for
the first annual ‘New
Oriental Cartoon Cup’
Competition. The competition
was launched at the end of
February, and after three
months had elapsed around
3000 entries were collected
from more than 20 provinces
and cities. Of all the
entries collected, 30 of the
best works were chosen for
an award.
Many famous cartoon
illustrators such as Miu
Ying Tang, Kong Ling Qiang,
Zhuang Hua Xin; in addition
to local Yangzhou government
officials were present for
the award ceremony.
Cartoons are an excellent
vehicle to bring out the
“inner child” in all of us.
Cartoons can assist in
developing ones innate
artistic ability, while
enhancing ones sense of
observation and imagination.
We hope that more students
will become interested in
cartoon illustration, and we
expect to host an
international cartoon
competition next year.

- Fund Raising for Wenchuan
Earthquaket (2008-5-20)
The
devastating Wenchuan
earthquake which occurred on
May 12th 2008, aroused not
only a patriotic spirit in
every Chinese person’s
heart, but also instilled a
sense of kindness towards
humankind. At our school, it
was no different; as we felt
both grief, and a feeling of
what can we do to assist our
brothers and sisters in
their time of hardship.
On May 19th 2008, our school
held a fund raising activity
as a means to assist those
who have been affected by
the earthquake. At the final
tally, more than 340,000 RMB
was collected in donations.
Some students from the
senior high school even sold
some of their much-loved
personal effects to raise
money for the earthquake
relief fund. In addition
many teachers at our school,
signed up as volunteers; to
be later trained as
psychologists and social
workers. It is our earnest
hope that we can bring some
aid and help to heal the
emotional scars and
physiological trauma in the
children affected by the
earthquake.
