Hi – my name’s Paul.
In 2003 I embarked on a new career as an educator travelling to Asia for the first time to take on new challenges as an ESL teacher. Leaving my home of Perth, in Western Australia after a career in Medical Science I was invigorated and captivated by the dynamism and people of the region.
Convinced by my experiences engaging with and teaching children, which I thoroughly enjoyed, I determined to make ESL education my career and studied for and completed a Masters Degree in Linguistics. Since then I have worked extensively teaching English in schools, universities and in private education in Korea, Taiwan and now in China.
Returning for a second year at Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School at Yangzhou, it is my privilege to be able to serve in a new capacity as the Director of International Teachers. It is my hope that the experiences and education of our teachers will enable us to guide our students in mastering not only a new language but endowing them with the skills, ability and confidence to engage with a new culture and the world.

They say China is the best place to visit as it has roots to all Asian culture.
I could not agree more.
My name is Margiyu and I'm from Indonesia. Students and friends call me Gyu.
When I first arrived in 2003, I thought it would take me just a year, but then a year was not enough to learn the rich Chinese culture. It was wonderful that the school extended a second year of employment, and so another, and following, and here comes my 8th year in Yangzhou!
All those years passed in a blink of an eye, yet all the teaching and learning experience is just unbelievable and so precious. In my first year, I was assigned to teach grades 1, 5, and 7. Just last year, my grade 1 students, those faces I recall, cute, adorable, front teeth-less, entered the secondary school, and those who were in grade 7 bid me goodbye to their dream universities, both in China and abroad! It is such a fulfilling feeling to watch them grow in our school, grow well and grow tall!
This year of 2010- 2011 is my second year holding the responsibilities of Vice Director.
I am entrusted to work together with Paul Tapper solidly and we both are looking forward to be working closer to our Chinese colleagues as well as our International team of teachers.
We believe that, only by doing so, will we achieve what is best for the school, our colleagues and most importantly our students.
