Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School at Yangzhou, CHINA

The Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School (BNOFLS) at Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, PR China, is hiring native speaking English teachers.

Working Environment

The school is new and has state-of-the-art facilities. It is managed with a philosophy of education that is a unique blend of the best parts of both eastern and western education.

International teachers are both welcomed and made comfortable here. BNOFLS at Yangzhou is part of the greater BNOFLS education system, the biggest privately owned school enterprise in China with 350,000 students nation-wide at 14 sites.

The new school in Yangzhou opened in September, 2003, with over 1,000 students in grades 1-7. The modern facilities expanded in September, 2004 enrolling 2,000 students in grades 1-8, and again in September 2005 enrolling 2,500 students in grades 1-10. In September 2008 the student population will expand to 3,500 students in grades 1-12.

Situated on the outskirts of Yangzhou and located between the Grand Canal and the Liao Jia River, the school’s spacious grounds include a beautifully landscaped canal running through the center. A convenient bus stop with regular buses to the city is located at the school gates. Yangzhou, a medium sized city of 4.5 million people, is a beautiful mixture of both modern and old traditional style buildings built around an ancient canal system lined, as are the streets, with gorgeous willows. It is about an hour’s drive from Nanjing (the capital city of Jiangsu Province) and about four hours drive north of Shanghai.

With a long history, Yangzhou has many historical and scenic locations to enjoy, such as homes and gardens once privately owned by wealthy salt traders in the distant past, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and the magnificent Slender West Lake Park. Yangzhou is the home of Huaiyang cuisine, one of four famous cuisines in China. It also has a unique bath and massage culture which is a must experience for visitors.

Dr. Xiuwen Wang is the head of the school. Dr. Wang lived in America for over 15 years and understands both western and eastern cultures, a necessity for pleasant working and living conditions in China. Dr. Bob, the assistant principal and supervisor of international teachers, is an American with many years of experience in western education. The staff is friendly and dedicated to making the life of international teachers as pleasant as possible.

Meet Our International Teachers
Our international teachers emigrate from English-speaking countries. There are currently twenty foreign teachers at Beijing New Oriental Foreign Language School at Yangzhou, coming from America, England, Australia, Indonesia, Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago.

They come to the same place, but all for different reasons. Bob, Assistant Principal, was warmly invited by Head Principal Wang Xiuwen after they had met on an air plane; Gyu was suggested by her boyfriend working at Lang Fang, He Bei Province; Emily is an authentic Chinese, and she wants to find her roots in China. While Reggie thought if you want to see the whole world, you must go to China because of massive populations. Yangzhou, China is an imagination and in reality. Janice, from Canada, thought that the biggest difference between the imagination and reality in China is that there are not so many people as she originally imagined. Foreign teachers and their Chinese students. When our reporter asked what's the difference between Chinese children and foreign kids, Kully said that all the children in the world are similar at their core. Janice, on the other hand, has already matched two students. One is in Yangzhou with one in Canada, as long-distance pen-pals.

It is my honour to serve the New Oriental Group as the Director of all the International Teachers.

I come from Canada and have taught oral English in China for three years. I have a son and a daughter and have always been involved in the education system since they started school. My name is Cathy, my experience and expertise comes from being a Mother, President of the local Day Care, and Secretary and Vice President of the Parent/Teacher Associations for both the Elementary and High Schools in the Province of Manitoba. I also have attained an International English Teacher License in TESOL, TEFL and TESL and specialization certificates in teaching children, adults and tutoring.

I have also worked in the Health Care System and have been a strong supporter of my community and church as Chairperson of many different committees. It is my love of children and concern for their education that drew me to this position. I want to thank Dr. Wang for trusting me to promote and build a strong English program for the students of the New Oriental Foreign Language School in Yangzhou. I hope I can inspire all the Chinese and International Teachers to work together as a team for the betterment of every student, as they are the future of China.

They say China is the best place to visit as it has roots to all Asian culture. I could not agree more.

I thought I would have had come for a year only, but then it went another, and another, and here it is my 7th year in Yangzhou! My name is Margiyu from Indonesia. My students call me Gyu. My teaching experience covers grades 1 to 8 (grade 6 as the exception) yet I have found more fulfillment teaching grades 3 to 5 for these past few years.

Thus that shall be my assignment for this year. Hopefully I can do my best for the school, my colleagues and most importantly our students.

Dream Experience

The Planet is ours to explore, along my way the stars guided me here to China where after a while I was fortunate to find a position at The Beijing New Oriental Language School, it is full of surprise, a friendly atmosphere along with many different experiences. Yangzhou is a very interesting and rewarding place with special discoveries to be made along with very nice helpful citizens here.

One of the strangest and embarrassing little secrets of real life is the fact that nothing is truly completely verifiable. One of the interesting aspects of the psychology of experience is that "reality" is basically in the eye of the beholder.” One of the most potent, practical, empowering facts of life is that every situation can be experienced from a variety of perspectives, each of which will result in a very different, though equally "real" "reality." People always say what is, just is and you can not change it !!! Both these Assertions are Inaccurate.

Basically we operate throughout our lives on the assumption that what is felt, seen and heard is real and that others feel, see and hear the same things. There is no way to assure ourselves of more than that. Some people find it hard to believe but the fact is that it is impossible to prove you are not in a very real-seeming dream right this minute and do not, in fact, actually truly have an existence as we believe life to be in any way similar to the one you are dreaming. So I ask you. :-

"Have you ever had a dream, that you were so sure was real..!!!. What if you were unable to wake from that dream? How would you know the difference between the dream world and the real world?"

A huge part of this world and the way we live has to do with the way we as a person see them and the perspective from which that person is seeing. Enjoy your life, live everyday to the full like it is your last one, we are all on this Planet for a very short time, so make the most of your Dream Experience and remember you can be anything you desire all you have to do is put your mind set to it. Thank You.
